Travel Grants

There are many opportunities for scholarships and stipends to assist in travel for study abroad and/or Israel. The list below is not exhaustive.

Suggestions for raising funds.

  1. The Tel Gezer Project qualifies as summer school and all US grants and loans apply. Please check with the funding office at your academic institution.
  2. Many students get assistance from family, friends, and their local churches and synagogues. This is a unique learning opportunity for students of the Bible, particularly those going into the ministry. Many family and friends will gladly assist in the financial support of this endeavor. Students have also used this unique travel opportunity as a graduation gift and/or as benefits from their local church/synagogue.
  3. In addition to private/personal sources, there are several granting agencies that provide funds. Listed below are some common sources that students have used for excavation projects in Israel.

Travel Grants:

  1. Archaeological Institute of America
    Jane C. Waldbaum Archaeological Field School Scholarship
    Provides $1000.00 to help pay for expenses associated with participation on an archaeological field School.
  2. ASOR Platt Fellowships
    (http://www.asor.org/platt.htm.)
    Students who are ASOR members or they are enrolled at ASOR member schools* (http://www.asor.org/corpmem.html) can apply for a $1200.00 scholarship to participate on an excavation. They strongly encourage students to participate in ASOR-affiliated digs (Tel Gezer is an ASOR –affiliated dig!).
    *All Gezer consortium member schools are ASOR affiliated.
